Climate justice in action

By Ruth Nortey

In this guest piece, we’re delighted to share an introduction and links to a wonderful new resource, developed by Ruth Nortey, social and environmental justice activist and member of the Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership’s disabled people’s forum.

Over the last 6 months, Ruth has been working on a creative commission with the Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership, called the Climate Justice in Action mini podcast series and zine, exploring how disabled people and people from global majority communities are represented in climate action.

The creative commission is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund as part of the Community Climate Action Project.

In the podcast series, Ruth speaks to different climate activists and those working in the sector to understand how as we move towards a greener future, we can make sure that it’s a fairer future.

As a Black disabled woman, Ruth is particularly interested in understanding how Disabled people and people from global majority communities are being included in actions to reduce the impact of climate change.

Through four episodes, Ruth, and producer Dr Natalie Hyacinth, explore:

  1. What a just transition is

  2. How to ensure disabled people are included in climate and nature action

  3. Representation of global majority people in the environmental sector

  4. The intersection of race, disability and climate change

Together with Ellie Shipman they have produced a zine to accompany the podcast series.

This was launched, along with a series of other brilliant resources around climate and disability at the Climate and Disability Showcase event in Bristol on 2nd October!
